We enjoyed our stay with Benita as we usually do. You could not wish for a better location or hostess. And of course the cat and dog who we love.

Tips:

The swan does very good meals and is very friendly and nice just for a drink. Also it’s only five minutes up the road. Lewes itself is very historic town lots of history and all the shops you could want. Also accommodation fifteen minutes walk from station so you have all you need on your doorstep.

We loved our stay at the Corner House which was homey and welcoming. Benetta was helpful, knowledgeable about all our activities, and warm. Her information and advice about Glyndebourne was extraordinary!

Tips:

For us, access to Glyndebourne Opera was the key feature of our choice of the Corner House. But Benetta is knowledgeable about other activities such as hiking, restaurants, and historical sights; she provided excellent guidance to the pleasures of Lewes and its environs. The Priory Ruins, Anne of Cleves museum and the nearby Gardens were an added bonus to the already unforgettable opera experience.

The host could not have been more welcoming and obliging - better than any tourist information office and genuinely wanted to help you make the most of your stay and enjoyment of Lewes and its environs. This is B&B at its best, personal rather than anonymous. We could not have asked for a more welcoming, interesting and friendly host and her two pets (cat and dog) are adorable. The accommodation was excellent (homely and artistic) and the bed was very comfortable. Ideal location: quiet and walking distance into town and close to a footpath on to the Downs. Breakfast included delicious home-made bread, fruit and cereals and we also were treated to tasty home-made biscuits on arrival. Thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. It was lovely to meet you Benetta.

Tips:

The town is worth a thorough wander as it is full of history and interest. We ate good vegetarian food at the Swan (two minutes walk) and the Rights of Man (in the High Street). The Depot (by the station) has a cinema and restaurant with a peaceful atmosphere. The climb up on to the downs via Juggs Road is well worth the effort for the wide vista at the summit (even on a rainy day). We will definitely be returning as there is an incredible amount to see and do in and around Lewes.

I love staying here with Benetta and her beautiful pets, Orsa and Mongo! Nothing is too much trouble for Benetta and she was able to accommodate all my dietary requirements. Breakfast for me is divine - a variety of fresh and stewed fruit and granola. Just yummy! And a range of herbal teas and freshly ground coffee. I stayed in the West room which is beautifully comfortable with an en suite bath/shower and luxury products for a totally indulging time. I’ve stayed here twice and coming again in October. Totally looking forward to seeing Benetta, Orsa and Mongo again soon! X

Tips:

When I visit I’m usually in Lewes for a course that I’m on so haven’t seen much. However, there is Lewes Castle and Museum, The Depot Cinema which also has amazing food, Fuegos, Aqua and Bill’s are all places where I have dined and all serve lovely food. My favourite is Fuegos! Looking forward to going back there on my next visit. The train station is close by, just a ten minute walk if that, with easy access to Brighton, Eastbourne etc. A great place to stay.

Benetta is an extremely friendly and helpful host, who provides a super comfortable "home from home". Nothing is too much trouble. Her breakfasts are legendary and she even helped us to plan a lovely coastal walk. I cannot recommend The Corner House strongly enough. We have already returned several times and will continue to do so. Love it!

I loved my stay here with Benetta. My room was very comfortable with a lovely en suite and luxury bath / shower products. Benetta accommodated my dietary requirements. I had the most amazing fruit salads and fruit compotes all home made with a variety of local fruits my favourite was the rhubarb and ginger compote and a lovely selection of herbal teas. The location was very good for me and an easy walk into town. I am looking forward to returning soon.

Tips:

My visit was work related, so I did have any time for sight seeing. However, there are some lovely restaurants and coffee houses in Lewes so great for eating out. Lewes Castle is on my list to visit when I am next down so hopefully I will be able to do so.

21st August 2017:

Everything about this B&B is marvelous. The home is impeccable, but the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. The breakfast room and garden are picture perfect. The host Benetta is charming and fun and goes out of her way to research any connections or interests required. Her two assistants, a dog and a cat, are so sweet and low-key...everything made us feel at home. Absolutely the highest recommendation.

Tips:

Benetta recommended a pub that was conveniently close. We also booked a private tour of the Bull House/Thomas Paine residence which included a walking tour, which was well worth it. All the sites of Lewes are well-presented: the priory ruins, the castle, Anne of Cleves' house. Don't skip the short film at the castle. We also went to the Snowdrop Inn to eat - a bit of a walk, but excellent, especially due to the live traditional music.

The Corner house is our go to B&B when visiting Glynbourne. The host is welcoming, friendly as well as a great source of local knowledge. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The breakfasts are very hearty, ranging from fruit and granola to full English (even veggie options when arranged). I would highly recommend The Corner House to anyone needing a place to stay in Lewes.

Benetta's hospitality is warm and welcoming - lots of help with all my various needs. I stayed here twice in July, each time for 2 days. Regrettably I had to work each evening on one of my stays but her wi-fi made this as easy as it could be. The stairs up the first floor are a bit steep, which might be a problem for some, but otherwise this is an ideal place to stay in Lewes.

Although this B&B is a little pricier than some of the competition, the whole experience more than justified this. The house and room were charming, with all mod cons and even special touches like fresh flowers and high-end bathroom products. If you like a homely and rustic feel, then this is the place for you, and there was no compromise in other directions - the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom in excellent nick and we even had a set og guidebooks on the area in our room. The landlady is a highly capable woman with some great conversation and impeccable taste and cooking skills - the breakfast was really very very good indeed. There is a resident dog and cat so if you don't like pets then this may not be the place for you but we thought they were adorable and very well behaved. Made a great weekend a fantastic one!

I was made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The bedroom and bathroom were well equipped although perhaps the decor was a little tired. The bed, pillows and linens were excellent and there was plenty of clothes storage. Nice extra touches included fresh flowers, a small library and tissues. Breakfast was also excellent with plenty of choices and special diets could be catered for. A further nice touch was that the dog was kept outside whilst I ate.

Tips:

I was with a walking group and the area provides excellent walks, and impressively my room contained several maps and walks of the area. I was lucky to bag the parking space but parking is plentiful and reasonable. There seemed a variety of both chain and individual restaurants, pubs and shops. There are also several artisan bread shops/ cafes and I recommend the Flinty Owl but also the homemade bread at the Corner House.

Charming, beautifully appointed home, well situated in Lewes. Owner and host, Benetta is the key ingredient in the success of this establishment. Her bright, welcoming personality, her attention to detail and her culinary skills ensure a wonderful stay. We were situated in the East Bedroom, which we found to be extremely comfortable; the ensuite having a generous supply of quality products for guest use. Benetta's breakfasts were excellent and the table setting inviting, especially overlooking a pretty garden. Thoroughly recommend.

Tips:

Depending on interests, Lewes and surrounds offer much. Easy to access the train into Brighton, just a 15 mins journey. Monk's House home of Virginia Woolf, very pretty with delightful garden. Plethora of local pubs serving good evening meals. Close for Glyndebourne. Lewes has interesting antique shops to browse.

The Corner House is simply a lovely place to stay. This is our second visit - the first was around a trip to Glyndebourne, for which it is very conveniently situated. This time we were in and around Lewes, where parking can be tricky. There is a parking space for guests and then it is an easy walk into the centre of the town. Benetta is a relaxed and friendly hostess who makes her guests feel at home whilst looking after everything with light, yet efficient touch. Comfy beds, good showers and tasty breakfasts in her light, sunny kitchen are all to be enjoyed.

Tips:

Eateries are very much down to personal taste but I quite like the Riverside cafe, Bill's, Prezzo and Ask Italian. Favourite place "to be" is a nearby garden The Grange. Favourite walks: over the Downs to Mount Caburn; Cuckmere Valley. Places to visit with views over the Sussex countryside: Firle Beacon, Ditchling Beacon, Bus or car journey from Seaford to Eastbourne - the sea on one side with the Downs on the other - simply beautiful ! Second time at this B&B and exactly the same high standards as the first visit. This is now my 'base' when I am in Lewes. Gorgeous room, modern bathroom, restful ambience, wifi, tv, hot drinks making facilities, hairdryer, books, slippers, fresh flowers, lovely assortment of toiletries in the bathroom, endless hot water. Private, off street parking for one car and Benetta is a fabulous host. Stunning breakfast to suit all dietary requirements and if you need any advice, Benetta is sure to help you. I would write another review on TripAdvisor but they won't allow me, till three months have passed. Anyway, I highly recommend this wonderful cosy, restful hideaway anytime.

Tips:

Get out and walk. Walk in Lewes, walk on the South Downs, visit the beach. If you want a bit of 'London' then go to Brighton and Hove otherwise stay local, Cuckmere Haven, Alfriston, any National Trust places. Plus to eat - Limetree Kitchen all the time, every time.

Very good place to stay. Lovely street tucked away off main roads so very quiet at night. The room was nicely done, comfortable and clean. In the morning Benetta did a fabulous breakfast. I' ll be back.

5th November 2015:

We were made very welcome, the room and en suite were clean, comfortable and well-equipped. Corner House is close to the town centre, but situated in a very quiet part of Lewes. Our host was extremely helpful and informative, providing us with a map and good advice. We enjoyed a great breakfast, with a good choice of food, whilst looking out on the garden. In all, a great stay, we would certainly choose Corner House again.

Tips:

The Swan, as recommended by our host, is probably the best pub in town, and also has a wide choice of delicious food on offer. Informal, friendly atmosphere in traditional surroundings. It is also a short distance from Corner House. A winner!

11th October 2015:

Benetta was a wonderfully considerate host and her dog Ursa very friendly. Benetta spoilt me with a delicious home cooked breakfast each day and went out of her way to make my stay memorable with local advice and walking maps...even fresh roses in my very pretty and homely bedroom.

Tips:

The Swan Inn welcomes strangers to the area and the South Downs Walk begins not far away. The pub at Plumpton ( 1.5 miles away) had the best local pork sausages i have ever tasted.
